Chris Doyle, a biologist from Allied Biological, called recently to request an opportunity to visit Lake Owassa and examine our weed population (no charge to LOCA).
So, early on July 2nd, Mr. Doyle and Brad Batastini rode around the perimeter of the entire lake for 2 hours to see and gather weed samples (it’s interesting to be in the company of someone who gets excited about weeds!!!).
The results of his analysis are to the right:
 The 1st one shows pictures of, and describes properties of the weeds Chris identified in our lake.
The 2nd one is a water analysis report of some simple parameters Chris took that day and his comments (worth reading).
Chris was pleasantly surprised at the “golden” (his words) condition of our lake relative to other lakes Allied Biological treats for weeds.
- All of the weeds he identified are “native” to northern NJ lakes with one exception “curlyleaf pondweed” – considered “invasive” it can become a problem, but at this time is not – we saw only a very, very small amount of it along the west shore.
- Our milfoil is not the invasive Eurasian kind; his recommendation is “no further treatment” at this time, unless it becomes dense enough to be a nuisance.
- Additionally, after our discussion about all of the parameters we test our water for, he said that “we (LOCA) were good stewards” of our lake (we are doing the right things). Many other customers of theirs hire them to do similar things, for which they charge big bucks (5 figures).
- Overall, Chris we pleased with the exceptionally good condition of our lake, including the results of their treatment of weeds in the E-cove this year.
